Hi there!
I got my eyebrow pierced in December, and i just recently changed my ring for a barbell.
In the last week or so, i have noticed a small red bump just underneath my piercing. it swells once in a while, and pusses. i am afraid it may be infected. is there anything i can do to heal it?
thanks a lot!!

If you are not doing anything to the piercing, it could possibly be the jewellery that may be causing the problem.
If you are still cleaning and moving the barbell this could also be doing some damage to the tissues surrounding the piercing.
You have not given us much information so that we can help you. Please let us know what you have been doing, what products you are using and how often.
What colour is the puss and have you popped it manually?
Thanks

Ok, well i'm not cleaning it or using anything on it. It hasnt been pussing much now, but there's still a red bump smaller than a dime underneath it.
I do pop it sometimes to clear it out i guess, i thought it would help, but it hasnt really yet.
It gets swollen every once in a while, but it doesnt hurt. I have read in some posts that the length of the barbell affects it sometimes, and i think that might be part of the cause.
The size of the bump is still quite large being smaller than a dime.
There has to be a reason for the bump to be that large and why its not shrinking. For the fact that it gets larger every once in awhile, tells us that something is still being affected on the piercing and that eventually the body reacts by secreting more white blood cells and therefore swelling increases.
The long barbell may be part of the problem, but something else that is really irritating the piercing is causing this problem. Without seeing it, you must give us more information.
For example: do you wear glasses of any kind, do you have long hair, and did you move the ring or adjust the barbell regularly? What type of material is the barbell made of? How long has the bump been there? Is it underneath the skin for does it surface like acne?
Anything that may be nothing to you may be very important to us.
Thanks

Sorry I took so long to reply.
Ok, first off, I kinda exaggerated a bit when i said the bump was ''just smaller than a dime'' i just didnt know how to describe it. It's probably about this size around: ( )
There is no swelling anymore, but it is considerably red still. The bump seems to be underneath the skin and it has been like this for about 3 weeks now.
I don't wear glasses, but i do have long hair, and shorter bangs that brush up against my piercing once in a while. Im not 100% sure what the barbell is made of, but i got it at Claire's in the mall. Since the piercing is on my face, i do sometimes have the habit of playing with it, but since i noticed the bump, i have majorly reduced the amount i even touch it.
I have been very careful with trying not to irritate it and catch it on clothing and such. I am hoping this will fix the bump.
One last question, is it a good idea to push on the bump to release any puss that built up inside? When i notice it pussing a bit, i will push on it to get it out, but im not sure if its really such a good idea.
Thanks in advance!
If the barbell is a good fit and does not move then the length of the barbell may not be the issue.
Since you have had this bump for 3 weeks, something is irritating it. You write that you have reduced the amount of times you touch the piercing. If you touch it with 'dirty' hands, then you keep introducing an irritant to the area and the bump will remain. You have to make every effort not to touch it at all.
You should especially NOT pop the bump to express the puss, you should leave that to your body. You can put very warm compress on it for a few minutes each night to help.
You should notice that the bump will start to shrink in size as you leave it alone. When it increases in size, then you have 'done' something for the body to react. Realize what you have done and try not doing that again.
Keep in touch.

about the length of the barbell, it is a bit too long, maybe a millimeter or so. and it does have a chance to move around.
thanks for the information. and i'll keep you posted.
Yes, for some if the barbell is too long it can cause problems.
Hope things will be better soon.
